EF2000 is a combat flight simulation video game released in December 1995 for DOS on the IBM PC compatible personal computer. It is the sequel to Digital Image Design's earlier software title TFX (computer game). It was released after the introduction of Microsoft Windows 95 but only runs in DOS mode. It features the Eurofighter. The simulation featured detailed terrain of the Baltic region, featuring countries such as Norway, Sweden, Finland and some parts of Russia. The location was inspired by a scenario described in Red Storm Rising by Tom Clancy[citation needed]. The simulation supported early Virtual Reality goggles.

EF2000 comes with an illustrated 285 page manual and includes a paper operational navigation map along with a paper quick command and control guide.

[edit] Gameplay

Gameplay consists of quick combat, simulator (free flight mode), training and multiplayer and features simplified avionics systems of the Eurofighter. Attention to detail is evident in the simulation's many missions and events. Refueling is accurately represented, MFDs allow you to view guided bombs striking buildings; damage is replicated.

The game featured a dynamic campaign that simulated a whole war, thus each play was unique and also had a much broader scope than in a normal mission based game, since missions flown by AI pilots and unrelated to the current players objectives were simulated as well.

EF2000 spawned later versions with various improvements. These were EF2000 V2.0 for Windows 95 and Super EF2000 with the Tactcom additions for Windows 95 (both also work on Windows 98, 98SE and ME). The graphics were boosted when Digital Image Design (DID) released the "Graphics+"-Patch, which added Glide API support to EF2000, making the graphics a lot smoother. In addition EF2000 spawned other later DID simulations such as DID's F-22: Air Dominance Fighter and F-22 Total Air War. In 2001 Rage Games Limited put out Eurofighter Typhoon. It was developed from the makers of EF2000 and has the Digital Image Design label on the box.
