eegee's
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
eegee's is a chain of fast food restaurants in Tucson, Arizona. It specializes in submarine sandwiches known as grinders, but it is most famous for its frozen slush drinks, officially called "eegee's drinks" but colloquially known simply as "eegees." It was founded in 1971 by Edmund Irving and Robert Greenberg, who combined their initials ("E" from Edmund and "G" from Greenberg) to create the name "eegee's." [1] It has been noted for community activism, from its recycling practices to its program for training and employing the mentally disabled[2] to its tradition of collecting donations for charitable organizations.[3]
eegee's was sold to to CEO Foods on September 18, 2006. [4] There are currently no plans to expand outside of the Tucson metropolitan area, which keeps the restaurant chain unique to Tucson.
