Edward Sinclair (1914–29 August 1977) was an English actor most famous for his role as the verger Maurice Yeatman in Dad's Army. He also made appearances in Z Cars and Danger Man.
Edward's father was the son of a stage actor who died when he was 14. Drama school was too expensive so he worked for amateur theatre companies. He served in the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry in WWII and was a salesman before deciding to become a professional actor in his late forties.
He died in 1977 after suffering a massive heart attack, within weeks of the filming of the final Dad's Army episode. Upon his death, it was mutually decided by the Dad's Army cast, partly due to Sinclair's death and his familiarity in Dad's Army, that there would not be any more Dad's Army episodes made.
