Edward Battell was a British racing cyclist. He competed at the 1896 Summer Olympics in Athens.
Battell competed in the 333 metres, 100 kilometres, and road races. His best result was in the road race, an 87 kilometre race from Athens to Marathon and back. He placed third in that race. In the 333 metres, Battel finished fourth with a time of 26.2 seconds. He was among the seven cyclists not to finish the 100 kilometres of the nine that started.
Battell worked as a servant at the British Embassy in Greece, some expatriots attempted to stop Battell from being selected to represent Great Britain on the grounds that he was not a gentleman.[1]
