Eduardo Macia

Eduardo Macía is one of the two Joint Chief Scouts at Liverpool F.C.. He joined Liverpool FC's technical team following the departure of Paco Herrera, who has joined Espanyol, where he will take up the post of sporting director. Macía previously worked with Rafael Benitez when he was manager at Valencia CF.

Eduardo Macía spent two decades at Valencia CF as player, technical advisor, and as the personal assistant to the club's current president, Juan Soler. He had previously worked with Rafael Benitez at Valencia CF working with the younger players. When he was Sporting Director at Valencia CF, Macía had a big part in bringing Brazilian midfielder Edu on a Bosman ruling transfer. [2]
However, when Rafael Benitez was appointed Liverpool manager, Macía stayed at Valencia CF as technical director. He eventually lost his role as sporting director to Amedeo Carboni.
Macía was offered another role on the club's board but he opted to seek a new challenge. "It's a professional decision," he said. "I think my job here has come to an end and I cannot give more than I have given." Benitez considered making a move for Macía when the latter rejected a new contract offer from Valencia.[3]. Former Valencia CF coach Claudio Ranieri was also interested in tempting Macía to join him, but Liverpool seem a more interesting option for Macía. [4]
His appointment was announced on 15 June 2006. [5] [6] Eduardo Macia joined Liverpool's technical team on 1 July 2006, despite previously denying his intention of joining Liverpool. [7]

One of Eduardo's earliest contribution was the discovery of Lazaros Christodoulopoulos, who was offered a trial by Liverpool. Lazaros was discovered while playing for PAOK[8] [9] [10] Lazaros did not travel with the Salonika squad pre-seasson tour of France, but instead went to Melwood to attend the Liverpool trial.
