TravisTX (talk · contribs) I registered over two years ago, but just started editing in earnest a last year. I’ve spent the majority of my time cleaning up messes, i.e. recent change and new page patrol, with some edits in AfD discussions. I have over 3,500 edits but have received little feedback, so I’m here asking for some. Basically, where should I go from here and where can I improve? Thanks. —Travistalk 15:17, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

Reviews

  • I'd like to say that although this user appears productive and helpful, he needs to take more care when tagging pages according to the criteria for speedy deletion, as evidenced here. WP:CSD#A7 states that it applies to pages that make "No indication of importance/significance. An article about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content that does not indicate why its subject is important or significant. This is distinct from questions of notability, verifiability and reliability of sources. A7 applies only to articles about web content or articles on people and organizations themselves, not articles on their books, albums, software and so on. Other article types are not eligible for deletion by this criterion. If controversial, as with schools, list the article at Articles for deletion instead." Having said that, his track record of fighting vandalism is very good - better than mine.--h i s s p a c e r e s e a r c h 02:25, 18 January 2008 (UTC)
    • Point taken. I didn’t see the assertion of notability until it was explained to me. Thanks —Travistalk 02:42, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

  • Hey there. I ran across your request for a review on your userpage while thanking you for taking a look at a template I was trying to get to align correctly. Wasn't sure what Editor reviews were, but reading yours I noticed you said you "received little feedback", so I thought I would take a look at your contributions and try and give some. Also, in the interest of full disclosure, I've only been editing actively for about 5 weeks, so please take anything I say with a grain of salt :)
    • I took a look at your contribs (only relatively recent ones, although I did take a look at those 2005 Sean Penn copy-edits ;) ). Good things I noticed include that you are active in fixing up ref tags, which is great. You also help tag articles, which is good too. However, I would suggest maybe trying to add a bit of content/copy editing like you did here as you seem to have a talent for that--and I personally love when someone comes through and takes what was previously a pile of uncoordinated raw-reference material that I threw together and creates a smooth, readable bit of prose. Also, I think the benefits of content-editing are substantial, i.e. the GA, FA, and DYK processes are great learning opportunities and further ways to receive feedback. Again, we all have abilities and you seem to have a knack for cleaning up articles.
    • Also, great work at the help desk.
    • So, you seem like a fantastic editor and I look forward to seeing more from you in the future! Lazulilasher (talk) 18:37, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

  • Hello there! Just a quick note: I noticed your post over at the help desk (that's what brought me here). Just a suggestion, but when leaving help desk responses (or whenever helping a new user) try to include as much information as possible in your response (especially with links to applicable policy). For example, on this response, you might have included links to Help:Image, WP:Fair Use or a variety of other pages. So yah, that's about it. Best of luck with your review! May all your wiki-editing be bright. --omtay38 03:09, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
    • Thanks! Regarding that post, I wasn’t comfortable trying to answer the question in the short amount of time I had available, so I simply added the info to make another user’s job easier. —Travistalk 15:57, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

Questions

  1. Of your contributions to Wikipedia, are there any about which you are particularly pleased, and why?
Sadly, I don’t consider myself much of a writer, so I’ll point out the one article I created: The Regis School of the Sacred Heart
  2. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
I haven’t been in any major editing conflicts. While I have certainly had a few disagreements, they have all been solved in a civil manner. When I realize that a disagreement has the potential to escalate into a full-blown conflict, I typically step back and take time to gather my thoughts before continuing.
