RJaguar3 (talk ยท contribs) I have been editing Wikipedia actively for about six months (but not as much recently due to being in school). I am wondering where to go from where I am right now into being more active in the Wikicommunity. Also, I was interested in suggestions for improving my Wikiquette and editing skills. Thanks in advance for reviewing me. RJaguar3 | u | t 01:16, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

  • I think you are doing fine in both your edits and your civility. You have a good amount of mainspace edits in proportion to your total edits but more edits overall would be better. It seems that you like mathematics so I suggest that you give a hand in Wikipedia:Reference desk/Mathematics. That should help you in becoming more active in Wikipedia.--Lenticel (talk) 11:23, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
You are certainly on the right track and I agree with Lenticel's comments on your edits and civility.
If you are looking for more direction besides fighting vandalism, I suggest becoming active in a WikiProject if you already aren't. Such projects include Wikipedia:WikiProject Television and Wikipedia:WikiProject Television Game Shows and are an excellent way to learn more about improving an article so it can progress up to Featured or Good status.
If you are looking to improve your editing skills, WP:GAN and WP:FAC are good places to look to. You don't always have to participate, but seeing other comments other editors are making is a good way to learn what type of edits an article needs. A less formal venue, but equally informative, is WP:Peer review. Comments and reviews are always welcome at each page as the number of reviewers is sometimes stretched.
As far as improving your wikiquette (which already looks to be very good), the only suggestion I can offer is to remember there is always a person on the other end of the screen and they have a reason for doing what they do. Whether that reason is right, wrong, or even justified is up for debate. But a reason does exist, and if you grasp that reason, then communicating with them in a civil manner is much easier. And when in doubt, read and/or re-read Wikipedia:Etiquette. I read up on policies every now and then because they sometimes change and a refresher never really hurts. Questions

  1. Of your contributions to Wikipedia, are there any about which you are particularly pleased, and why?
I have made many simple vandalism reverts throughout my career as Wikipedian. However, I have also made a few major edits in areas in which I have knowledge. The article I've edited the most (and have had the greatest contribution to) has been Legends of the Hidden Temple. And I am proud of my work. My contributions have made the article well-sourced, objective, and (very importantly, given the semi-cult-like nature of the show) continually free from the fancruft and trivia that once plagued the article. That's why I'm proud of my edits there, and that's why I'm looking for a direction to go to continue similar work on other articles.
  2. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
I have had conflicts with a few editors during my eight months here. Most of the time, my interactions are simple vandalism-warning-pasting that at worst results in having to make an entry on AIV. However, some conflicts have been greater. In the past few weeks, I've been in a game of talk page tag with User:Jarjar13 over the external links section of Legends of the Hidden Temple. However, I think I handled it well, in a calm, cool, and collected manner, and all without getting reprimanded. Of course, it is rare that I have conflicts, because I almost never edit the pages that are hotbeds for POV-pushing and edit wars.
