[edit] Hairchrm

Hairchrm (talk · contribs) I would like to be reviewed here to see how I am helping in the community, and also how I can contribute more. I am obviously lacking perfection, but I would like to see both my strengths and weaknesses played out evenly. Please, no personal attacks, though I am open to criticism. - Hairchrm 03:13, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

Reviews

  • Reviewed by Moonriddengirl I see a lot of good contributions to articles, primarily in the nature of defending the wiki—watching out for unconstructive edits, that sort of thing. You seem generally to make very good warnings on user talk pages after doing vandalism clean up. One note you left following a vandalism warning at User talk:76.103.17.46 did confuse me: "I'll talk to you about this tomorrow"? I presume that you have some real life acquaintance with the editor? :) The only other thing I saw that gave me pause was at User_talk:71.221.223.81. There is no need to issue redundant "last" and "only" warnings; it only makes our warnings seem to lack teeth. I'd recommend that after issuing such a warning, you report and then clean up without further comment. Even if AIV is busy, it'll get taken care of soon enough. Those are the only two things that stopped me in a great number of such contributions reviewed.
In general, your communications with other users beyond the vandalism stuff seems friendly & helpful, as this and this. I found your communication at Talk:List_of_Unicode_characters#Audio_recording a little on edge, because the line between friendly sarcasm and hurtful sarcasm can be pretty thin. If you know that editor, it's probably not a problem. For all I know, the editor who proposed it was joking himself. If you don't know him (or know if he was serious), it might be gentler to respond without the humor. :)
In terms of substance, your article contributions seem clean & well structured. I do note that sections of The Quarry Lane School remain unsourced over a month after you placed this hidden note: <!--- I know that there are no sources, please give me some time ---> This is particularly an issue for the criticism section, I would imagine, since it's possible the rest can be traced back to the school's page. The article does need secondary sources to bring it in line with notability guidelines, though.
As I do a lot of CSD patrol, I'm personally pleased to see you taking the time out to issue warnings to editors whose articles you are tagging. You're pretty consistent about that, and I thank you. It helps cut down on confused editors contacting admins or the help desk later because they can't figure out where their page went or why. I notice, though, that you didn't issue a warning to User talk:Phantom37 for speedy tag placed on Halo 3 valahlla on September 30. If you could make that a universal practice, that would be fabulous. And, as a tip for the future, I see that user removed the CSD tag you placed two minutes after you placed it. You might want to put pages you tag on watch to keep an eye out for that sort of thing. :) The article was eventually deleted, but not for another 12 hours or so when another edited happened on it on "dead end" page patrol.
You seem to spread your contributions out nicely through a variety of spaces, showing a willingness to pitch in at a number of points on Wikipedia, including the Village Pump. Overall, you seem pretty well-rounded in terms of vandalism patrol, article building & contributing to the work of other editors. Well done. :) As far as your question about contributing more is concerned, perhaps you'd enjoy getting more deeply involved with a WikiProject, which might give you an opportunity to do more article building? Perhaps Wikipedia:WikiProject Schools? Good luck, and happy editing. :) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 19:24, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

Questions

  1. Of your contributions to Wikipedia, are there any about which you are particularly pleased, and why?
I would have to say that I enjoy counter-vandalism stuff, though I do not use automated software to do so. I also think that some of my first edits, those on the article David Lanz I was pleased about because it was my reason to join the community. Though the article is not a FA, and I haven't edited it for a while, I am still pleased about my edits.
  2. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
I have not been in any major conflicts on Wikipedia and definitely no one has caused me stress. I have dealt with some minor conflicts, such as those on my talk page: the "66.91.112.18 Issue" and the "Rant of 72.235.14.99" on user talk:hairchrm. I was also involved on this meta disscussion about the Inukitut WP: [1]. It ended up not going through, but was my first real shot at understanding what happens on disscussion pages. This caused a little bit of a fuss, but it is solved now.
