[edit] East or West German?

As Barth defected to the West, is it safe to say that he was East German, or should his flag and nationality preferably be West German (or perhaps just German)? I suppose he competed under the West German flag after his defection. John Anderson 23:19, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

I originally classed him as West German since the most of his career took place after his defection. I see that someone edited the article to say he was East German, which isn't wrong as such, but there needs to be some note or something to state that he basically had two nationalities. Maybe it would be best to class him simply as German. Bretonbanquet 23:37, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
I have made some comments along these lines in the article now. John Anderson 20:24, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
Nice work, I had no idea about the date of the change in the flag. This looks great, and the other articles as well! Bretonbanquet 21:36, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
