WrestleMania IV was the fourth annual WrestleMania professional wrestling pay-per-view event produced by the World Wrestling Federation (WWF). It took place on March 27, 1988 at the Trump Plaza in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The tagline for the event was What the World is Watching.

The event featured, among other things, a tournament for the WWF World Heavyweight Championship which was vacated after a controversial match between Hulk Hogan and André the Giant.    * Bad News Brown won a 20 Man Battle Royal (10:40)
         o The participants were Bad News Brown, Boris Zhukov, Bret Hart, Brian Blair, Danny Davis, George Steele, Harley Race, Hillbilly Jim, Jacques Rougeau, Jim Brunzell, Jim Neidhart, Jim Powers, Junkyard Dog, Ken Patera, Nikolai Volkoff, Paul Roma, Raymond Rougeau, Ron Bass, Sam Houston, and Sika
         o Brown and Hart cooperated to eliminate Junkyard Dog. Brown then eliminated Hart to win the battle royal after attacking Hart from behind with a Ghetto Blaster.
         o Hart later attacked Brown and broke the trophy that was awarded to the winner.
   * Tournament First Round: Ted DiBiase (w/Virgil and André the Giant) defeated Jim Duggan (4:54)
         o DiBiase pinned Duggan following a Fist Drop after Andre tripped up Duggan and then clocked him.

   * Tournament First Round: Don Muraco (w/Billy Graham) defeated Dino Bravo (w/Frenchy Martin) (4:53)
         o Bravo was disqualified for pulling the referee in front of him to avoid a forearm from Muraco.
   * Tournament First Round: Randy Savage (w/Miss Elizabeth) defeated Butch Reed (w/Slick) (5:07)
         o Savage pinned Reed after a Flying Elbow Drop.
   * Tournament First Round: Greg Valentine defeated Ricky Steamboat (9:12)
         o Valentine pinned Steamboat with a roll-through on a Flying Crossbody
   * Tournament First Round: One Man Gang (w/Slick) defeated Bam Bam Bigelow (w/Oliver Humperdink) (2:56)
         o Bigelow was counted out after being low-bridged by Slick.
   * Tournament First Round: Rick Rude (w/Bobby Heenan) fought Jake Roberts to a time-limit draw (15:00)
         o Both men were eliminated from the tournament.
   * The Ultimate Warrior defeated Hercules (w/Bobby Heenan) (4:29)
         o Warrior pinned Hernandez when Hernandez applied a half nelson suplex and Warrior got his shoulder up first.
   * Tournament Quarter-Final: Hulk Hogan fought André the Giant (w/Ted DiBiase and Virgil) to a double disqualification (5:22)
         o Both Hogan and Andre were disqualified for using chairs.
   * Tournament Quarter-Final: Ted DiBiase defeated Don Muraco (w/Superstar Billy Graham) (5:44)
         o DiBiase pinned Muraco following a Hot Shot. (5.40)
   * One Man Gang received a bye in his quarter-final match to qualify for the next round.
   * Tournament Quarter-Final: Randy Savage (w/Miss Elizabeth) defeated Greg Valentine (6:06)
         o Savage pinned Valentine by roll-up after countering his Figure Four leglock.
   * Brutus Beefcake defeated WWF Intercontinental Champion The Honky Tonk Man (w/Jimmy Hart) by disqualification (6:30)
         o Honky Tonk Man was disqualified after Hart hit the referee with a Megaphone, as a result he retained the Title.
         o The referee was legitimately injured by the blow from the megaphone and needed to be helped out of the ring.

   * The Islanders (Haku and Tama) and Bobby Heenan defeated The British Bulldogs (Davey Boy Smith and The Dynamite Kid) and Koko B. Ware (7:30)
         o Heenan pinned Ware after he was picked up by The Islanders and dropped on top of Ware.
   * Ted DiBiase received a bye in his semi-final match to qualify for the next round.
   * Tournament Semi-Final: Randy Savage (w/Miss Elizabeth) defeated One Man Gang (w/Slick) (4:05)
         o One Man Gang was disqualified after attempting to strike Savage with Slick's cane.
   * Demolition (Ax and Smash) (w/Mr. Fuji) defeated Strike Force (Rick Martel and Tito Santana) to win the WWF Tag Team Championship (12:33)
         o Ax pinned Martel following a cane shot.
   * Tournament Final: Randy Savage (w/Miss Elizabeth and Hulk Hogan) defeated Ted DiBiase (w/André the Giant) to win the vacant WWF Championship (9:27)
         o Savage pinned DiBiase following a Flying Elbow Drop after DiBiase was struck by a chair swung by Hulk Hogan (as a counter-measure for Andre's repeated interferences in the match).
   * Robin Leach read a special proclamation "sanctioning" the tournament for the WWF Championship at the start of the event and was scheduled to present the belt to the winner, though it was snatched away by Hulk Hogan in celebration of Randy Savage winning.
   * Bob Uecker acted as the special guest ring announcer for the main event and was escorted to the ring by Vanna White.
