[edit] Cleanup
Ouch. There's tons of interesting background here. But the history is very complicated due to almost certain confusion in accounts due to the Farina family having multiple heirs all with the same name (as Jean-Marie Farina, Johann Maria Farina, etc). Any cleanup needs to tidy and integrate 4711 and Johann Maria Farina. - Tearlach 22:16, 12 July 2005 (UTC)
[edit] History of Eau de Cologne
The history is quiet clean and recorded. unsigned post by 213.168.91.39 (talk · contribs)
- Only if you adopt a view filtered through one source. For example, the press document has a different slant on the history. There are various accounts, and many of them credit Feminis and his Aqua Mirabilis as a precursor of Eau de Cologne (see [1], [2], [3]). If this is coming from the account at www.eau-de-cologne.com , it looks to me commercially biased. There were loads of precursors about in Cologne at the time - "Hungarian Water, Eau imperiale, English water and Aqua mirabilis", and that is context for the origin of the Farina version. [edit] Cologne
Am I right to say that cologne is used primarily by men? If so, this should be mentioned in the article. 199.46.198.234 21:10, 1 September 2005 (UTC)
You are right to say the original Eau de Cologne nowadays is used by nobody, only as a souvenir. And I grew up in Cologne. 80.141.68.196 11:26, 11 January 2006 (UTC)
The Original Farina Eau de Cologne from 1709 is used both by men an women. Even if you grew up in Cologne, you probably don t know the scent of the genuine Fragrance and the customers. Johann Maria Farina XVIII.
[edit] Please remove the picture of Trojnoj
The last pic on this page is that of a modern rendition of a hideous Soviet-era product called Trojnoj, or Triple Eau de Cologne, which, rather than being a historical product, is actually used by the poorest classes, as it costs about 25 cents a bottle, and, at that, is generally imbibed by alcoholics, rather than used as directed. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 128.195.186.25 (talk) 09:16, 9 May 2007 (UTC).
[edit] Links
Why is there no link to www.farina1709.com? Also how can one order Eau de Cologne when the company does not reply. --Margrave1206 (talk) 16:19, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
