East Lancashire derby
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The East Lancashire Derby is a football match between Blackburn Rovers F.C. and Burnley F.C.. There is a rivalry from a town standpoint as the two Lancashire towns are only a few miles apart. Accrington Stanley F.C. stands geographically in the middle, but is not taken seriously as a rival by either, which along with Preston North End F.C. and Blackpool F.C. are considered the Big Four of Lancashire.
A significant number of Rovers fans also consider Manchester United and Bolton Wanderers as rivals due to the fact that Rovers are Premier League mainstays these days. Although many of those Rovers fans consider Burnley rivals due to the historic rivalry they are no longer viewed as the only main rival due to the league/stature/wealth gap between the clubs.
Blackburn Rovers came out on top in the last match between the sides, beating Burnley 2-1 in the FA Cup 5th round replay at Ewood Park on 1st March 2005.
