The East LA Classic, or East Los Angeles Classic ('The Classic') is the homecoming football game for both James A. Garfield High School and Theodore Roosevelt High School. It is known as the East L.A. classic as the two mentioned high schools are the most prominent high schools in the East Los Angeles area. The classic has taken place since a few years after the opening of the schools, with the exception of a decade or two, due to the Great Depression and World War II. Wins and Losses have been exchanged between the two competing schools. However, Roosevelt holds a few more wins overall.[1]

The classic brings out alumni from all parts of the world, usually fielding crowds in excess of 25,000 per game[2] and has been held at the East Los Angeles College at the Weingart Stadium for much of its existence. The event was held at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum for a few years before returning to its original location at Weingart Stadium.

The 2007 edition of the East Los Angeles Classic is set to take place at East Los Angeles College's Weingart Stadium, in East Los Angeles, on Friday, November 2nd, 2007. This will be the 73rd meeting between the Garfield Bulldogs and the Roosevelt Roughriders.[3] Both teams look very impressive coming into this encounter, as Garfield is currently at W-L-T[4] and Roosevelt is at W-L-T.[5] Based on the respective teams' performances, the game may very well become a classic display of Run & Shoot offensive strategy against aggressive defensive strategy.
