[edit] Of course science fiction and fantasy are not the same!

It would be absurd to pretend that they are; and I feel that when competently written, it should be easy to tell which is which. But for complicated historical reasons, both fields are traditionally lumped together by libraries, publishers and booksellers. And of course, a lot of what is most cherished by those of us in science fiction fandom and at science fiction conventions, and discussed in science fiction fanzines, is actually fantasy, from Tolkien to L.
