Earl Roy Curry

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Earl Roy Curry (July 2, 1890 - September 25, 1980) is best remembered for his publications on spiritual subjects.

Born in Pennsylvania, Curry joined the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (later Community of Christ) in 1908. Shortly thereafter, in 1911 he moved to Kirtland, Ohio.

From 1929 - 1957, Curry functioned as the Bishop's Agent for the Kirtland Temple. This meant he was in charge of repairs and restoration on the Temple. With a degree in Ceramic Engineering, Earl worked day in, day out on every inch of the Temple and can be credited with helping to ensure the survival of the 170 year old building.

In the midst of his work, Curry meditated on spiritual questions, frequently on the third floor of the Temple. His questions in regards to the Divine Endowment resulted in the publication of nearly 30 books, many of which continue to be influential in various Christian denominations today, especially the Community of Christ and the Restoration Branches.[citation needed]
