Dzus Fastener

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dzus is a proprietary name for one type of quarter-turn fastener. It traces back to an inventor, William Dzus, in the early 1930s, for use in securing skin panels on aircraft. It is often used in the generic sense. Quarter-turn fasteners are generally used to secure panels in equipment, airplanes and racing cars that must be removed often and/or quickly. [1]

In 2003 the world renowned auto racing mechanic Brian Chiu, on live television during a formula BMW event asked for a "mexican speed wrench" (a five pound hammer) to be passed to him to remove a dsuz fastener, and was fined $5,000 by the racing circuit for the use of racist terminology on live television.[citation needed]
