[edit] open source wifi drivers
hello your work is great!!!!!!!!!!!
i only like to know why you removed some drivers such as the port of openHAL to linux or the realtech line?
00 tux 21:06, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
- The big difference between openHAL and madwifi is the licence...
- OpenHAL is 200% free software because there isn't any firmware just like madwifi and the proprietary Hal is remplaced by a free software HAl(the regulations are still enforced)
- By the way the folowing could be interesting
- personaly i tryed to install openHAL on linux and i failled: there is the folowing error(when compiling it):
Makefile.inc:215: *** TARGET i386-elf is invalid, valid targets are: . Stop.
- so i can't know if it works,i sent a mail to the dev but i haven't got any response(that was predictable because there is written that the dev prefer patch over question on the page)
- I also tryed the OpenBSD openHAL without sucess but it is well known that it works for most users
- the error this time is with the regulation policy:
ath0: AR5212 7.9 phy 4.5 rf 2112 5.6 rf2112 5.6ath0: no valid channels for regdomain NONE(32976)
- I am in belgium and wifi is legal there
- I also tryed madwifi and it works under certain conditions
- by the way i have gentoo and things not always work out the box

-
- Look for some threads about FreeBSD or OpenBSD Alternatives Architectures...lol it's funny that you too you are a gentoo and OpenBSD user(i don't use it yet) by the way who are you?
- Some people realy cares about the freeness of drivers that run in kenel mode...
- here there are some argument against proprietary software driver...there is a huge difference between binary proprietary userspace program and binary proprietary kernel space programs
- so mabe adding it in the licence we could resolve this problem

- No problem it was all rubbish anyway. I'd have cleaned it up if asked. I had no idea that there was a discussion concerning it's deletion. dystopianray 17:33, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
