[edit] His Name (2005-2006)

His real name is Dustin Runnels, not Virgil Runnels III. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.70.95.203 (talkcontribs) 02:31, 18 December 2005 (UTC)

--Can anyone clarify this??? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.39.156.37 (talkcontribs) 17:33, 9 February 2006 (UTC)
I am pretty sure that Goldust's name IS Dustin Runnels. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.93.21.102 (talkcontribs) 12:31, 10 May 2006 (UTC)
Dusty's official website lists his real name as Dustin. --JFred 09:33, 3 June 2006 (UTC)
It's often common practice for Juniors and "the Third"s to go by a middle name or an assumed name, so he may very well be, say, Virgil Dustin Runnels III. --Darryl Hamlin 16:34, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
Actually, both their middle names are Riley, I have seen Dustin's full name as Dustin Riley Runnels and Dusty's as Virgil Riley Runnels, Jr. --JFred 00:43, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
It's still likely he simply goes by an assumed name. For example, Nicolas Cage. -Darryl Hamlin 04:11, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

I was told that he was named after his father and grandfather, which is why I made the change myself at one point. However, he may have legally changed his name from Virgil III to Dustin at some point. After doing a bit of digging though, his IMDB page says that his birth name was Virgil Riley Runnels III. [edit] Released

I heard somewhere he was released, Can someone confirm this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.255.76.132 (talk • contribs) 21:51, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

WWE.com did. Levodevo 08:51, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Birth Year

Does anyone know his real birth year? He broke into the business in 1988 after finishing high school. If born in 1966 as listed, he would have been 22 years old when he graduated high school. This seems inacurrate. ABB 7/11/0 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.254.152.36 (talkcontribs) 17:54, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

1953 i believe —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.137.211.110 (talk • contribs) 10:45, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
It is definatly 1969 beause being the son od dusty rhodes the mayjor companies are not going to wait until hes 30 are they to sign him —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.106.6.28 (talkcontribs) 12:14, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
His birth year is 1966, leave it as that. He made his pro debut at 22, no one make their wrestling debut out of high school. Darrenhusted 11:40, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Platinum

Anybody remember Platinum, the last gimmick he was supposed to get at the end of his 2nd WCW run. A promo was leaked onto the internet a few years ago. It was basically a Goldust rip-off and WWE apparently threatened a lawsuit. I'm pretty sure I didn't imagine it.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 205.250.216.181 (talkcontribs)

I don't remember it but could you tell me where I could find the promo, pics, anything? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.146.191.179 (talk • contribs) 22:00, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Counter-vandalism? [Christophenstein]

Dude, why did you get rid of my contribution?

It's not vandalism, Goldust *did* ask HHH to look down there "in the cock...cock...cockles of your heart"
shrugs —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Gurzyb (talkcontribs) 19:36, 12 January 2007 (UTC).

[edit] Return to WWE

Is Golduts going to ever return to the WWE? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.228.245.45 (talkcontribs) 23:12, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

goldust is my favorite wrestler ever so i say that having a wrestler like goldust would help
wwe . —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.7.198.192 (talk • contribs) 16:33, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
He's now in TNA as Dustin Rhodes. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.236.42.53 (talk • contribs) 19:09, 21 July 2007 (UTC)
TNA plans to use Dustin's failed Platinum gimmick from WCW.

He will actually be called "Black Reign" in TNA probably a "Seven" playoff.

[edit] Requested move

The following discussion is an archived discussion of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

Virgil Runnels IIIDustin Rhodes — 1,890 Google hits for "Virgil Runnels III", 59,100 for "Dustin Rhodes". Runnels' father is listed under Dusty Rhodes (wrestler) and continuity between the articles is logical. McPhail 22:42, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Survey

Feel free to state your position on the renaming proposal by beginning a new line in this section with *'''Support''' or *'''Oppose''', then sign your comment with ~~~~. Since polling is not a substitute for discussion, please explain your reasons, taking into account Wikipedia's naming conventions.
  • Support as nominator. McPhail 22:47, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
  • Neutral at the moment. While I can see your reasoning with Dusty's article, the problem with this one is that Dustin has been known by so many names, that it's hard to pick one. Mshake3 23:17, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
  • Support per nominator. Most of the ghits for Virgil Runnels III are just listing "real names" of wrestlers. Dustin is always known as Dustin Rhodes or Dustin Runnels. Eggy49er 00:45, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
    • Give me one name and why. Mshake3 00:56, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
      • Dustin Runnels. It keeps his most commonly known first name and his actual last name. Eggy49er 01:02, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
  • Support per nom and established precedent. JPG-GR 01:42, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
  • Support per JPG-GR. The Hybrid 01:47, 20 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Discussion

Any additional comments:
  • Comment: Is Virgil Runnels out of the question? Would be a bit more ... towards his name, and wouldn't have the odd "three" at the end. Just a thought. --SteelersFan UK06 04:34, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
    • Well when people refer to "Virgil Runnels", they are normally referring to Dusty Rhodes and not Dustin. Eggy49er 04:39, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
      • I would agree with the above Dustin Rhodes then. That's what I've heard him most referred to as (with the exception of Goldust obv), so go with that. --SteelersFan UK06 04:43, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
The above discussion is preserved as an archive of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

This article has been renamed from Virgil Runnels III to Dustin Rhodes as the result of a move request. --Stemonitis 11:53, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Please Remove

The statement in the TNA Wrestling 2007 section "basically the look of goldust except its black and white paint instead of gold and black" should be removed. It is unprofessional and is not really accurate. He really does not resemble Goldust becaue the face paint is different and the design and style of attire he wears is not like the Goldust attire. And furthermore it is actually silver and black paint. This is really not needed in the article and should be removed please.

  • So remove it then. ;) Alexrushfear 10:25, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

I can't im not a member and it already has. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 74.227.152.228 (talk) 15:46, August 23, 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Article name

Wouldn't it be most logical to have the article name as Goldust? That's what most people know him as. Alexrushfear 10:25, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

No because wikipedia uses the real names or assumed names not character names and people know who Dustin Rhodes is and that he was Goldust anyway. Kieranburke1 23:02, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

Actually, Wikipedia uses what they are best known as (hence whay Mark Callaway's article is at The Undertaker). However, in this case it is right. He was just as well known as Dustin Rhodes: competing in WWF in 1990 and WCW in the early to mid 90s, having his real name become common on WWF TV when his Goldust character started becoming more human in 1997, and his time in TNA as Goldust (even though he is now using the Goldust rip-off "Black Reign" gimmick). TJ Spyke 03:37, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Term of Address for Rhodes in this article

The article refers to the guy as Runnels throughout the article. I believe this is unnecesarily confusing, in public he goes by the name Dustin Rhodes when he was not portraying the Goldust character. His article name is also Rhodes, why refer to him by a name he doesn't use? It's sufficient to mention it as his real name in the first paragraph and leave it at that. 212.84.101.51 23:46, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Child Abductor?

The sub-heading for his return to WCW says, "Rhodes returned to World Championship Wrestling in 1999, filming several vignettes for a fantastical, face-painted character named Seven. The character was dropped after Turner Standards and Practices expressed concern that it could be misinterpreted as a child abductor."

The part needs an explanation and/or citation. TheUnknown285 15:43, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Trivia

Would it be safe to say that Dustin Rhodes is the only wrestler to have a profile on both WWE and TNA's website? Would this be noteworthy? 12:01, 29 October 2007
