Durood is an invocation which Muslims make by saying specific phrases to compliment the Islamic prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him and his family). Islamic view is to say durood whenever a Muslim reads, speaks or hears the name of holy prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him and his family). Durood is a kind of prayer and is mentioned in hadith as well as in Quran.

One of the example is Durood-e-Ibrahimi (Called for having reference to Abraham):

O God! Send blessings upon Muhammad and upon the House of Muhammad as You sent blessings upon Abraham and upon the House of Abraham; indeed, You are praiseworthy and glorious. O God! Bless Muhammad and the House of Muhammad as You blessed Abraham and the House of Abraham; indeed, You are praiseworthy and glorious.[citation needed]

Salaam, (also Durood o Salaam in Urdu) is a form of Islamic poetry sending greetings to Muhammad.
