[edit] Disputed tag

I've added a disputed tag to this article as I can't find any source that refers to this weapon outside of fantasy games such as Dungeons and Dragons. If this is a wholly-fictional weapon, it should be defined as such in the opening sentence. If it's not, can someone find a source describing which culture used these weapons? I am unaware of in which culture the Duom actually existed, but there are very similar weapons shown in the various african tribes, such as the Tutsi, whose ceremonial spears have backward pointing blades on them as well. I beleive it was meant as a way to get a second chance at attacking opponents in mass conflicts. The weapon also shows some Oriental flare as well as some roots in Gaelic. It may be that the weapon is just a feasable conglomeration of these for fantasy games, or maybe someone did alot more homework than I am willing to do on it. GSDF Saturday, 15 April 2006

I believe that the duom is an actual weapon of African origin which is named for the duom palm (the tapered leaves of which resemble elongated spear heads). I read this once, very long ago; but I cannot quote or credit my source, so take it with a grain of salt. Qing Ting 19:13, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

Can't find any record of this existing anywhere, and there's been plenty of time for someone to post up a cite. From all evidence to hand at the moment, this is a fictional item, so I've tagged it as such. This can be reverted if a cite for such a historical weapon is found. - PocklingtonDan 11:09, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
