Dunkirk is a city in Blackford, Delaware, and Jay Counties in the U.S. state of Indiana. The population was 2,646 at the 2000 census.

Dunkirk is located at (40.374392, -85.209734),[3] primarily within Jay County but with section in ajorning Blackford and Delaware counties.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.1 square miles (2.9 km²), all of it land.

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 2,646 people, 1,093 households, and 746 families residing in the city. The population density was 2,351.4 people per square mile (904.1/km²). There were 1,214 housing units at an average density of 1,078.8/sq mi (414.8/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 98.34% White, 0.30% African American, 0.15% Native American, 0.26% Asian, 0.08% Pacific Islander, 0.11% from other races, and 0.76% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.64% of the population.
There were 1,093 households out of which 30.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.9% were married couples living together, 12.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.7% were non-families. 27.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 15.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.42 and the average family size was 2.91.
In the city the population was spread out with 24.6% under the age of 18, 9.2% from 18 to 24, 26.6% from 25 to 44, 23.7% from 45 to 64, and 15.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 92.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 85.3 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $33,750, and the median income for a family was $38,220. Males had a median income of $32,684 versus $20,517 for females. The per capita income for the city was $15,128. About 7.1% of families and 10.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 10.7% of those under age 18 and 9.8% of those age 65 or over.
Dunkirk, Indiana is home to Saint Gobain Glass Company, which manufactures 2,000,000 Budweiser (Anheuser-Busch) beer bottles a day in its ultra modern computerized facility. Other companies include The Midwest Web Group which is the parent company for The FTA Show ( www.theftashow.com ) and The FTA TV Show ( www.theftatvshow.com ) and FTA Satellite Sales, ([www.ftasatellitesales.com] and The Movie Crypt ([www.themoviecrypt.com]) home to over 6,700 public domain movies. In addition to this, The Midwest Web Group also produces and hosts a 2-hour long daily satellite radio show heard on Galaxy 25 and a 30 min TV Show shown on AMG-TV Galaxy 26 as well as various web sites as a streaming video / audio file. As well as producing radio call in shows for such Indiana notables as Horror Host Sammy Terry.
