The Ducemus Secret Society at Emory University consists of five anonymous seniors who work to advance the spirit and values of Emory. Ducemus is Latin for "we lead," and those selected for membership hold leadership positions in all facets of University life.

The society was founded in 1991, and its initial purpose was to revitalize the Greek system at Emory, which was in danger of collapse at that time. Over time, the group evolved to include members outside the Greek community and widened its focus to promote the well-being of Emory as a whole.

The society is perhaps best known on campus for revitalizing the Wonderful Wednesday tradition -- a two-hour, bimonthly celebration that brings students, faculty and staff together to take a break from work and classes and just have fun.

Unlike other secret societies at Emory, the members of Ducemus never reveal their identities. Their motto is a quote by Robert Woodruff, distinguished benefactor of Emory University:

"There is no limit to what a man can do or how far he can go if he does not mind who gets the credit."
