Dubai Philharmonic Orchestra

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Dubai Philharmonic Orchestra (DPO) was founded by Philipp Maier -- who became its first Conductor and Artistic Director -- to fulfill need for an orchestra within the United Arab Emirates. It performs in the city of Dubai.

Originally called the Dubai Philharmonia, as of 2007 the DPO consists of around 60 local volunteer musicians - amateur and professional -- resident in the UAE -- and performs regularly at private events, public concerts and corporate functions.

Performances in early 2007 were claimed to be well-attended and successful.[1]

The Dubai Philharmonic Orchestra performes both European classical music and specially commissioned works influenced by both European and Arabic musical traditions.
