Would like to know: What happens at the surface of the sea? Does the dropsonde float? Is it recovered and used again? How much do they cost? Thanks.

[edit] Not just for Weather

Aren't dropsondes also used in the detection of submarines and in other military contexts? This article makes it sound like the only meaning of the word is in the meteorology field. Nrbelex (talk) 21:56, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
