This article indicates that balls do not bounce as high on clay courts, while the article Tennis Courts seems to indicate the opposite. I have never actually played on a clay court, so I can't remedy this situation, but if someone could clear it up, that would be great. MrCheshire 17:26, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

You're right, balls on clay courts bounce higher than other courts (see for example tables at [1]). The real reason drop shots are common on clay courts is that many clay court court players are baseliners who often hang several feet behind the baseline, making it hard for them to cover the distance to the net to retrieve a drop shot.
