[edit] Parking on a Driveway
Any chance we could get a bit of etymology of the word to finally explain why we park on a driveway but drive on a parkway? 204.69.40.7 15:19, 14 April 2006 (UTC)
- Driveway and parkway both appeared first in the U.S. within few years of each other. I believe the etymology is clear enough, won't you :-) Anyways, we discussed about the term parkway at Talk:List of words having different meanings in British and American English#Please_avoid_using_these_terms_with_different_meanings_in_definitions Feel free to park on your driveway, to drive on your driveway, or to drive on a parkway. But don't even try to park on a parkway... ;-) JackLumber 21:45, 29 April 2006 (UTC) You'll find out that Englishmen park on their "parkways"---nothing to do with what we call "parkway," of course...
