[edit] History
1997 - As the post-Vivisect scene in Novi Sad, the band found themselves DIY releasing their LP "Abnormal Waltz" (re-released in 2007. for the net-label Amduscias Records in USA). New members joined this duo and started to make industrial/crossover music. The name dreDDup means "to escape from the fear within you" and the whole band decided to talk about their fears through the sound. To understand the music of dreDDup you must know that the situation with industrial sound is of very low interest for the Serbian people. There were many efforts to make some sort of industrial band of the 90's in Serbia but many of the bands ended to be r.i.p. in very short time. dreDDup needed a lot of energy to maintain its presence on underground music scene of Serbia playing among the non-industrial bands. Many collaborations with other bands and projects took place and dreDDup helped many demo bands.
1999 - The name dreDDup was soon after well known to the underground scene and the band found their fans. They were invited to play on many festivals and became more active on the scene. dreDDup shocked Novi Sad's history with bloody live performances and avant guard movies. It was known that some of its original members performed naked on stage, cut themselves and had shocking statements in several television shows. The purpose of dreDDup became to bring back the word "industrial music" in peoples minds.
2000 - They began live acts in 2000. but were presented to the wider audience in their 2002 performance for Duplo Dno Garage Party 2 festival which was organized by this theatrical group. Soon after, they worked on their first demo LP "R U Digital!?" (CD was never released, although it was printed by the band for their fans and friends). In the meantime they recorded a great amount of songs that were only released on DIY releases. They composed music for several movies and theater plays (Poslednja Krapova Traka, Footsteps, U malom dvorcu, Hronika Sterijinog Pozorja..) and recorded ambiental sounds for TV-plays and TV shows on the national television RTS.
2005 - Band started many side-projects and did remixes for other non-industrial artists such as Cutwork and Zexon 5.
2007 - The year 2007. erupted their name to the wider audiences.
[edit] The Sound
Music of dreDDup is a mixture of dark ambiental sounds with rough industrial rhythm followed by metallic vocals. They changed their sound a lot since 1997. but were always known as "the only live industrial band" in Serbia. As the line-up changed, new members changed the sound of the band a lot. After experimenting with weird noises and rough drum beats they embraced commercial segments in their sound, making it more popular for some wider range of listeners.
Vocal was always metal orientated and music on the album was more electro than in live performances. After the experimenting with demo "R U Digital?", where they played a lot of genres but sticked to industrial in the basic sound, their first official LP took place. "Mr Borndeads Feast" was released for MoocSound a Holland music label. This album talked about the past and the presence of it in peoples minds. Lyrics on the album were much mature than on previous releases and dreDDup found a completely new generation of fans. Although their main concept was to create lyrics that can be sarcastic and serious in the same time they always tried to make songs sound more different and unique. Band than did gigs all over the country, playing more than 200 shows and presenting their sound to Serbian people. After "Mr Borndeads Feast" and the positive reviews in the press, they collaborated with other artists and published "One Way" compilation for the SKC NS organization which deals with concert & theater performances (along with video art in national wide range).Their second release "Future Porn Machine" sounded more live on the album. They finally got their own sound. This album talked about the pornographic future and felt more apocalyptic than other releases. Sound was more dirtier and distorted. It was released for Insurrection records from Belgrade. In 2007. they started working on their new LP which moves the sound limits even further making their music more depressive and more rough.
[edit] Future
Working on new LP "Future Porn Machine" they signed for Belgrades record label Insurrection records. dreDDup was than invited to play many shows and their friendship with Dark Revolution soon took place. So their label decided to publish their upcoming release - "El Conquistadors" which will be released in 2009. This album will talk about the dark present tense and the darkness of mankind.
[edit] Duru
Band started gathering other bands from ExYu territories and uniting them with the Serbian industrial and underground scene. They named this organization DURU and it started in 1999. first as recording studio and than as underground promotion label. The plan was to unite the underground and make some room for the young bands. It was obvious that it must be separated to electronic and live underground scene. So the Duru guys decided to launch Dark Scene as a DURU part associated with industrial, gothic, darkwave, experimental and other dark music genres. DURU moved to promote just plain underground scene over the Nervni-Slom and Helly-Cherry magazines. Dark Scene promoted plain dark underground acts.
From 1997. to 2007. dreDDup members helped the underground music scene by promoting it, recording demos and organizing group concerts and happenings. DURU was also the name of the post-production studio of dreDDup where they did remixes for other artists and recorded/post-produced demos for young bands. For now Dark Scene and DURU released three V.A. compilations with 60 different bands and recorded demo tapes for more than 50 bands. Also, the archive of Dark Scene was started over at Dark Sceneand they also started a D:S forum where people can be informed of the ExYu region bands.
