Drakelow is a hamlet in the parish of Church Gresley in South Derbyshire. It is two and a half miles south-west of Burton on Trent. It is pleasantly situated on the east bank of the River Trent. Drakelow hall was the principal residence[1] of the Gresley Baronets, but this has been replaced by Drakelow Power Station. The cooling towers from the last power station were demolished in September 2006.[2]
In 2005, the electricty company, e.on, was given permission to build a new power station in Drakelow. The new combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) is rated at 1,200MW and will provide sufficient power for 1,000,000 homes.[3]
