Dr.King´s Tree

Dr. King's Tree is a campaign created on January 15 2008 after a debate in a Venezuelan forum (Noticiero Digital) where a proposal was made to carry out an action highlighting the non-violent methods used by Martin Luther King, Jr. to solve conflicts. The action to be performed is to plant a tree for Peace and Non-violence. History

On January 15, 2008 the first Dr. King's Tree is planted in Caracas with the support of the Movimiento Ecológico de Venezuela. Other trees are planted in Valencia (Venezuela), Maracaibo and Miami, the latter planting organized by the Asociación de Madres Venezolanas en el Exilio (AMAVEX). On January 26 a new tree is planted in Nueva Habana (Miami). This act was organized by AMAVEX, Agenda Cuba and Ciudadanos en Acción. It was made in favor of the Venezuelan and Cuban political prisoners.
On February 15 another tree is planted in Santiago de Chile with the cooperation of the Municipalidad de La Pintana and organized by ruta de PAZ

The purpose is to plant a tree in honor of Martin Luther King Jr, then place a plaque stating the name of the campaign "Dr. King's Tree", the location where the tree is planted and the date. This is then documented with photographs and/or videos to be posted in Internet. These actions are carried out by any individual wishing to make a call for peace and non-violence.
