Dorr-Oliver Eimco is a supplier of liquid/solid separation equipment and process technology. The company’s history and development is inextricably linked with the evolution of the mining and minerals processing industry.

The company was formed by the merger of two pioneers in liquid/solid separation solutions – DORR-OLIVER and EIMCO PROCESS.

DORR-OLIVER had its beginnings at the turn of the 20th Century when J.V.N. Dorr invented the reciprocating rake classifier to solve problems his mine was having classifying gold ore. As a consultant, he invented the continuous process sedimentation thickener to help his client’s mine improve settling efficiency. He also originated the concept of countercurrent decantation. At the same time, E.L. Oliver, working in the gold fields of California, introduced electrolytic precipitation as a more efficient method of recovering gold and silver from cyanide slime slurries and went on to develop the world’s first successful rotary drum vacuum filter.

Dorr-Oliver Canada was formed to design and manufacture process equipment for minerals processing with the company operating a manufacturing shop and foundry facilities in Orillia, Ontario, Canada. The company was acquired in 1990 by GL&V (Groupe Laperrière & Verreault Inc.), as an investment into the expanding process technologies marketplace.

EIMCO was founded in 1918 in Salt Lake City, Utah by the Rosenblatt family although their young entrepreneur father, Nathan Rosenblatt, originally started the business in the late 1880’s as a scrap metals dealer after he immigrated to the United States from Russia. His sons joined the family business in the early 1900’s and in 1918, Eastern Iron and Metals Company was born to rebuild and resell worn mining equipment. In 1926, one of the sons, Joseph Rosenblatt took over this part of the business and in 1931, the company was renamed EIMCO, an acronym of the original name, and the company moved from custom construction of equipment and machine refurbishment to being a designer and manufacturer of mining equipment and mineral processing equipment.

EIMCO underwent many name changes over the years through acquisitions, mergers and new parent companies. Some of these company identities include: 1969 - EIMCO purchased by Envirotech; 1971 - Envirotech bought Western Machinery; 1982 - Envirotech purchased by Baker International; 1990 - WEMCO merged with Eimco; 1998 - EIMCO merged with Bird Machine Co. and Baker Hughes Process Systems to become Baker Process; 2001 - EIMCO spun off as legacy company and became EIMCO Process Equipment Company.

In November of 2002, EIMCO Process Equipment Company was acquired by GL&V and its liquid/solid process business assets were consolidated with GLV/Dorr-Oliver. The new corporate entity DORR-OLIVER EIMCO, Inc. was formed.

As a result, Dorr-Oliver Eimco combined the experience of the two comapnies as a liquid/solid separation technology supplier, to provide equipment and processes for mineral, industrial, chemical, hydrometallurgical and environmental applications, using vacuum and pressure filtration, mineral flotation, heavy media separation, classification, clarification and thickening equipment.

The company is headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah with offices located throughout the world (United States, Canada, Mexico, Chile, Brazil, Peru, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, South Africa, India, China, Singapore and Australia).--Dorr-Oliver Eimco 20:55, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
