Some kind of citation should be provided for the alleged origins of the word; it seems the 'common' belief is in fact that the word is derived from a word for 'sleep' (possibly French), as a golfer could relax once he was in a 'dormie' position, having already won the match, save a disaster. Whilst the Dormice idea is rather more romantic, it's probably nonsense. Jez
