Dorothy Janis (born February 19, 1910) was an American silent film actress. Born in Dallas, Texas, her short film career began when she was visiting a cousin, who was working on a film for Fox in 1927. Her beauty was noticed at once and she was asked to make a screen test. Ms. Janis went on to make five films, 4 silents and 1 talkie. She was best known for playing opposite Ramon Novarro in The Pagan (1929). She retired in 1930 and married band leader Wayne King in 1932. They were married 53 years, until his death in 1985. [1] She currently resides in Paradise Valley, Arizona.
