[edit] Information

The Doom title artwork, painted by Don Ivan Punchatz, depicts the lone hero, a space marine, fighting demonic creatures (Barons of Hell). There are some variations on this artwork. In the introduction of Doom, the marine's left arm is holding a shotgun and he is surrounded by demons. For some console cartridge versions such as the SNES, the marine's left arm is free and not being grabbed by a demon. Interestingly, there is another marine in the background.

This image is reused in the form of an ancient stone tablet in the remake of Doom; Doom 3. The tablet is portrayed as being broken with the face of the marine, or the legendary 'hero,' missing. The marine in this image has no gun (though his hand is still in the pose it would be in if he were holding a gun) and is holding the Doom 3 weapon the Soul Cube in his left hand. An image of the tablet can be found here.

[edit] Fair use rationale

  • The copyright of the image is presumably held by id Software. The entire work is used. However, it is of fairly low resolution and would be of limited use for non-web purposes. It is not replaceable by a free-content image.
  • Doom (video game):
    • The image is the box art for the main subject of the article. It provides the primary identification of the subject.
  • Doomguy:
    • The image is the primary depiction of the main subject of the article, going about his regular activity of killing demons.
