Dan-e-o (born Daniel Faraldo on June 10, 1977 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada) is a hip-hop artist of Jamaican and Spanish ancestory. A member of the Scarborough-based hip-hop crew, Monolith, Dan-e-o is often touted as one of Canada's most esteemed lyricists and battle rhymers.
In May 1991, at the age of 13, Dan-e-o entered into and won a rap-off contest on a Toronto-based dance show, “Electric Circus” beginning his foray as an artist in Canada's hip-hop scene. Dan-e-o maintained his winning streak through numerous talent competitions and battles throughout his career. Most notably, he won the Darknights Freestyle Battle in July 2003 in Markham, Ontario.
Dan-e-o is best known for his first single, “Dear Hip Hop”, which was released on Beat Factory’s RapEssentials Volume One album in 1996. This compilation included artists from all over Canada including Wio-K, Rascalz, Kardinal Offishall and Choclair, all of whom Dan-e-o toured Canada with in support of this album.
In 1997, Dan-e-o helped found One Rock Records and together with Monolith, independently released the EP, The Long Awaited… the following year.
In 2000, Dan-e-o released his debut album, The Book of Daniel including the cuts, “Corrida De Toros”, “Margerine”, “Revenge” and “Baahd!” displaying his potent and seemingly breathless lyrical style.
In 2004, Dan-e-o’s second album, See No Evil, Hear No Evil was released including the singles and videos “T.N.T.”, "Funkbox", "Deadly" and "Kama Sutra" featuring dancehall reggae artist and Dan-e-o’s distant cousin, Red Rat. This album mixed elements of funk, soul, reggae and rock with street battle raps and conscious-minded lyricism helping to stregthen Dan-e-o’s reputation as an elite MC.
Dan-e-o has since released the full-length releases Dear Hip Hop and Speak No Evil on his own label, Planet Rock Records.
