Note: Wikipedia's non-free content use policy almost never permits the use of non-free images (such as promotional photos, press photos, screenshots, book covers and similar) to merely show what a living person looks like. Efforts should be made to take a free licensed photo during a public appearance, or obtaining a free content release of an existing photo instead.

I do not agree for deletion. Of course Lopez is an important person of our time, he has published a lot and is seen as a high scholar in religious studies as well as among Buddhists. What else I can say as an argument against speey deletion? --Kt66 00:35, 16 June 2006 (UTC)

Please read WP:BIO and WP:PROFTEST and edit the article so that it is obvious the subject meets the requirements (he probably does) within the next five days, and then remove the {{dated prod}} tag, and your article will be kept. Speedy (immediate) deletion has already been denied. If you remove the {{dated prod}} without making changes to the article, it might be nominated for deletion with discussion, which also takes five days. So take your time, but not too much, and cite reliable sources for your assertion that he is a high scholar. Kusma (討論) 00:53, 16 June 2006 (UTC)

Perhaps this is to less. The statement of being a high repected scholar I took over from the WP-site Donald Lopez. --Kt66 01:40, 16 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Categorization

Is this fellow a Buddhist or does he simply study Buddhism? I ask because I couldn't decide whether to add him to the category "Buddhists". RedRollerskate 21:40, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Academic Title

I recently received an email from Dr. Lopez identifying him as the Arthur E. Link Distinguished University Professor of Buddhist and Tibetan Studies, and a UM press release from Jan 2006 similarly identifies him. Web references to the title as given in the article, however, are numerous. I am guessing the sponsorship of the chair somehow changed (are these getting to be like baseball parks?); perhaps the title as given should be included parenthetically with the modifier "formerly." Since I need to reply to his email, I guess I will ask him this, and make the change or not depending on his reply, but I am adding this note in case someone has another thought and as a reminder to myself to follow up. [edit] Dharmic writer?

I'm guessing that most Religious Studies scholars would object to a label like this. He is not writing "Dharmic" texts, only about them. I think this label should be removed, as one should distinguish between authors of primary sources and those who study them. --Joechip123 (talk) 22:30, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
