Dongfeng Peugeot-Citroën Automobile

Dongfeng Peugeot-Citroën Automobile is a joint venture between the Dongfeng Motor Corporation and the PSA Group, in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China.
The first car of this joint venture was the 1992 Fukang DC7140, this was a Citroën ZX, which was given the Chinese name for 'Prosperity and Health'. It was followed by a number of variations made especially for the market, including a saloon version.
Dongfeng Peugeot-Citroën Automobile currently produces the Citroën Fukang, Xsara, Picasso, and Elysée, and Peugeot 307 for sale in China, whilst later in 2006 the firm will launch the Citroën C-Triomphe based on the C4, and a supermini based on the Peugeot 206, called the C2.
The Citroën-Dongfeng joint venture has gone through many variations, since 1984 when Citroën sold 2,500 luxurious CX models to the People's Republic of China as a means to get government approval for a joint venture contract to produce automobiles. Dongfeng produces over 100,000 Citroën cars annually and is growing rapidly.
Sister brand Peugeot had a separate joint venture in Guangzhou which ended in 1997 - this factory is now a joint venture between Honda and Guangzhou Automobile Group, producing 117,000 units in 2003.
Peugeot's failed venture with Guangzhou Automobile Group had produced the outdated Peugeot 504 pickup truck. The Dongfeng venture in contrast is the first time Peugeot has launched one of its latest models outside of France.
