Donald Russell is a gourmet meat specialist based in Inverurie, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. The company was founded in 1974 by Scottish farmer William Donald and master butcher John Stone, whose family traded under the name "Russell Meats". In its early years Donald Russell only supplied meat to the trade, selling gourmet meats to a growing number of highly reputed restaurants and hotels in the UK and worldwide. The BSE threat which was noticed in the early 1990's in the UK forced the company to diversify its business strategy as exports of their products was no longer possible. As a result, Donald Russell began delivering high quality meats to households across the UK. This part of their business has since grown considerably, as they are now able to market and sell their produce from their website.
Donald Russell has built their reputation on supplying the very best meat available. The company supplies a wide range of premium meats including the finest grass-fed beef, matured for a minimum of 21 days, high quality lamb and mutton, free-range pork and poultry, genuinely wild game, welfare kind veal and seafood. Recently the company started a range of artisan breads.
Donald Russell was awarded with a Royal Warrant in November 1987 as a mark of recognition to the company, who has regularly supplied meat and poultry to Queen Elizabeth II. The Royal Warrant is regarded as a mark of excellence and quality, and is highly prized.
