[edit] Early Life
Dominick grew up in the Toledo suburb of Walbridge, Ohio. He was diagnosed at age four with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (later named SMA III) by Dr. Edward Orecchio. Born Meghan Lawniczak, Evans struggled not only with his disability as he went into a wheelchair full time at age 16, but also with his gender identity. At the age of 22, he took the steps toward becoming a man. As a transgendered male he has expressed himself through his writing and through his activism with various human rights organizations.
Dominick is also an accomplished singer. He's trained with various teachers including Lee Merrill, formerly of the Houston Opera. Well known for his singing in Toledo, Evans has sung on the Toledo Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon, for various Toledo radio stations and for the opening day celebrations of Cedar Point Amusement Park in 2001 before a crowd of thousands.
Dominick attended Bowling Green State University from 1999-2000 and Wright State University from 2003. He majored in Theatre with a minor in Political Science.
[edit] Acting
Throughout junior high and high school, despite mobility limitations, Dominick was able to participate in most of the school musicals. Having attended Lake High School in Millbury, Ohio, Evans acted in Oklahoma!, Camelot, The Wizard of Oz and shared the lead part of the Narrator in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
Dominick acted in community based theater at Bowling Green's Black Swamp Theatre in their production of Anything Goes. He also participated in the critically acclaimed production as both a singer and crew member for the American debut of Woza Albert! at Bowling Green State University. At Wright State, Dominick participated in a production of The Normal Heart, a play about the HIV-AIDS crisis of the early 80s.
In 2002, Dominick made his film debut in the independent movie, The Making Of... where he played the role of the Make Up Artist. The movie is a mockumentary about a film crew making a movie. The film won a Jury Award at the New York Short Film Festival and a Documentary Film Award for Best Mockumentary at the New York International Independent Film & Video Festival.
