[edit] Summary

Graph of dog age to human age. There is no single authoritative and generally agreed graph, but this should be close.

  • Data for ages 5 and higher is taken from Table on dogpack.com, said to be "based on a chart developed by Fred L. Metzger, DVM, Dipl. ABVP; State College, PA".
  • Data for ages 0-2 is taken from numerous sources that cite equivalent ages for 1 and 2 year old dogs (other than giant breeds).
  • Data for giant breeds under 2 is the same data, but reduced slightly to allow for reports in many websites that such breeds mature more slowly
  • Data for ages 2 - 5 is simple linear interpolation, as most sites agree a linear model is valid even if they disagree on the exact ratio of years to be used.

Breaks at 2 and 5 years mark the above for completeness. The standard for human survival is not disclosed but appears to assume a human lifespan of around 77 - 80 years as its comparative.
