Dodentocht
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Dodentocht (English: Death march) is a 100 kilometer walking march organized annually in Bornem, Belgium. The march is known for being quite tough (hence the name) due to the distance of 100 kilometers and the terrain (roughs and forests) through which the march is organized.
[edit] History
In 36 years the Dodentocht has become one of the most important hiking happenings in Europe. Begun in 1970 with 65 participants, it has grown into an event with over 9,000 hikers. There are no rankings or records, the reward is a certificate and a medal.
The Dodentocht is organised by the non profit organisation Kadee Dodentocht, assisted by the non profit Youth Centre Kadee. Approximately 600 members of the organisation are involved during the event itself.
