[edit] Fictional character biography
Douglas Birely was born in Culver City, California. As a scientist, he was studying the correlation between radioactivity and mutation when he was contaminated by a radioactive spill. As Dr. Demonicus, he is a criminal geneticist and criminal subversive who creates monsters and discovered the Lifestone. He created numerous immense monsters mutated from animals including Batragon, Ghilaron, Lepirax and Centipoor. He raided oil tankers from his secret laboratory Aleutian Island base using these monsters and his criminal troops. The monsters were defeated by Godzilla, and Demonicus was defeated by Gabe Jones and taken into S.H.I.E.L.D. custody.[1]
Demonics was an ally of the alien Myndai, Maur-Konn, who gave Demonicus his gigantic space satellite base orbiting the moon. Demonicus later used his genetic and robot monsters Starchild, Cerberus and the Hand of Five against the Shogun Warriors Raydeen, Combatra, and Dangard Ace. Demonicus launched a meteor strike against Earth from his space station base. He was foiled by the Shogun Warriors and taken into custody by S.H.I.E.L.D. again.[2]
He eventually captures, enslaves, and mutates Godzilla. He set Godzilla against the Avengers West Coast. He salvaged Iron Man's original armor and used it to attack the Avengers West Coast but was defeated by Tony Stark.[3] He was mutated by the Lifestone and the demon Raksasa. His alter ego, Douglas Birely has skin cancer which is kept under control by devices in his costume.
He was also the founder of the Pacific Overlords, and with them battled Sunfire and the Avengers West Coast. He raised a land mass from the Pacific Ocean floor just north of Hawaii, and on it founded the new nation of Demonica with himself as ruler. However he was seemingly killed when Demonica sunk back into the Pacific.[4]
However, he later turned up very much alive.
He apparently finances his criminal efforts and schemes by producing boy bands for the music industry, and as a skilled (and amoral) geneticist, when he says "producing", he means it quite literally.[citation needed]
Doctor Demonicus was eventually arrested, convicted and incarcerated for his crimes. He was sentenced to "the Raft", a supervillain prison facility. He was among of the 43 villains that escaped during the breakout engineered by Electro.
The Hood has hired him as part of his criminal organization to take advantage of the split in the superhero community caused by the Superhuman Registration Act. He helped them fight the New Avengers but was taken down by Doctor Strange.
