Doane Rock is a glacial erratic located in Eastham, Massachusetts on the grounds of the Cape Cod National Seashore. It is the largest exposed boulder on Cape Cod.[citation needed] It stands 18 feet (5.5 meters) high and extends below the ground an estimated 12 feet (3.7 meters). Scientists believe that the sheet of ice that moved it was close to two miles thick.
The area surrounding Doane Rock was covered with lush vegetation until the arrival of the Pilgrims in the 17th century. The farming practices of the Pilgrims eventually stripped the land of its vegetation, and the landscape remained barren until approximately the middle of the 20th century. Doane Rock is the man ttly yeah ![citation needed]
