Dixie High School is a high school that is located in St. George, Utah, and can be found at 350 East 700 South. It is a Utah Class 4A school (formerly 3A) with around 1300 students. The school's mascot is the Flyers, represented by a World War I era biplane. Larry Bergeson is the current principal of the school. Dixie High School was the first high school in St. George, Utah, being founded in 1911 under the name "St. George Academy" in conjunction with Dixie State College of Utah, the schools separated in 1963, when the college left the campus. The school took on the name Dixie in 1913, and the tradition of white-washing "DIXIE" on the Sugarloaf (a sandstone formation overlooking St. George) began at this time as well.
Dixie High School offers a wide variety of Advanced Placement programs and opportunities for concurrent enrollment at the nearby Dixie State College of Utah.
In 2004 Dixie High School was moved into a brand new, three story building. The old building was torn down in 2004. By the beginning of the 2005-2006 school year, the brand new Dixie High school campus was complete, with a new Gym and a water feature stretching along the school between the gymnasium and the main school building. Much of the old school is now gone, but there is one classroom left over from the old school which is used for auto-tech type classes.

[edit] Arts
In 2001 Dixie High began construction of the new building with the completion of a new Arts department, complete with auditorium, choir and instrumental rooms. The arts work together during the year, not only during concerts, but especially during the school musical. The choir students are often involved on stage while the band and orchestra students play in the pit orchestra below the stage. Thoroughly Modern Millie was Dixie High's musical last year, while You Can't Take it With You was the most recent straight play, also performed last year. Both shows were an immediate success. This year, they performed The Wizard of Oz and Little Women. The Wizard of Oz did so well that it was extended for another night.
All major instrumental groups (Symphonic Band, Varsity Jazz, Orchestra) went to state in 2007. Orchestra came home with a Superior Rating.
