Diwan Bhai Abdul Hamid, one of the illustrious Ravian, and the oldest living Ravian at the time of the Centenary of the Government College, Lahore, inaugurated the Centenary Celebrations by unfurling the National Flag and the College Flag, in the presence of the then President of Pakistan, Field Marshal Ayub Khan, atop the College oval, Diwan Sir Abdul Hamid. He remained the Chief Minister of Kapurthala State, East Punjab, for 28 years before partition. He was also India's delegate to the League of Nations (present day United Nation General Assembly). In Pakistan he was appointed Chairman, Refugees Rehabilitation Finance Corporation and Director State Bank of Pakistan, by the Government.
Abdul Hamid, Diwan Sir, former Revenue and then Chief Minister of Kapurthala State for 30 years.Moved to Lahore in 1947, despite Nehru's request to stay back in India and offer of the Governorship of Berar. He moved to Lahore alongwith his family. His two sons Ataul Haq and Inamul Haq opted for Pakistan Army while youngest Zahoorul Haq was Joint Food Commissioner Punjab in Lahore. In Jallandhar his main haveli was in the Basti Danishmandan, named after his great grandfather and inherited by him and his brother Mian Abdul Haq. He owned atleast six villages , including Bowhani village, making him a muslim of considerable resources.He remained the most non controversial Muslim prominent leader, nevertheless was one of the most distinguished Muslim figure of the sub continent, particularly Punjab.
