The Division of Chisholm is an Australian Electoral Division in Victoria. The division was created in 1949 and is named for Caroline Chisholm, a social worker and promoter of women's immigration. It is located in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne. Until the 1980s it was a safe Liberal Party seat based on Camberwell, but since then boundary changes have moved it south-east and made it a marginal seat, taking in the suburbs of Box Hill, Burwood and parts of Clayton. It has been held by the Australian Labor Party since 1998. The first member for Chisholm, Sir Wilfrid Kent Hughes, was one of Australia's most distinguished soldiers, who held the seat until his death on 31 July 1970.
