Diversified Industrial Staffing is a recruitment firm based in Troy, Michigan. According to Inc. magazine, Diversified Industrial Staffing “Provides long-term staffing solutions for companies in the construction, manufacturing and logistics industries.”[1] It was founded by Todd Palmer in 1997 as a bootstrap company and named one of Inc. magazine’s “The Fastest Growing Private Companies in America” in 2008. According to the Inc. profile of the company, in its first ten years of business the company’s growth was 41.7%. Its revenue in 2003 was $2.6 million and in 2006 was $3.6 million. The Inc. profile describes Diversified Industrial Staffing:
Ranked No. 65 in the Top Companies in Detroit-Warren-Livonia, MI
What it does: Provides long-term staffing solutions for companies in the construction, manufacturing and logistics industries.
Why it's growing: Trademarked technology that assesses a candidate's personality traits and matches him or her with the client's job openings--the process reduces employee turnaround rates and increases repeat customers.
What's noteworthy: Maintains a regularly updated employee and customer blog.
In a struggling economy, people turn to staffing companies to help them find employment. According to the Detroit News, “Diversified Industrial Staffing, a blue and gray collar headhunting company, reports that 2007 was their strongest revenue year ever.” The Detroit News article describes the company thus: “Troy-based Diversified—which supplies employees with benefits, thus being the ‘actual employer’ when they provide staff—says they are growing because more companies can’t or won’t provide benefits and want to avoid legacy costs.”[2]
An Oakland Press article describes Diversified’s clients' needs: “Many of the job seekers Palmer meets spent their lives working in the same plant until being laid off and have relatively narrow skill sets. Some have little idea of how to write a résumé, and few have mastered online job sites.”[3]
An article in New York-based EconoPlay.com on recruiters, CEO Palmer describes the Diversified Industrial Staffing client base and their interests: “My clients are seeking specific, high-end skilled trades and have fewer candidates to choose from compared to a year ago…. All of the hiring is from smaller companies, less than 100 internal employees.”[4]
Diversified Industrial Staffing is a member of the American Staffing Association.[5]
