[edit] inherent sovereignty of the states

While I admit it's nitpicking, it's not strictly accurate to describe state supreme courts as deriving their authority from the Tenth Amendment of the federal constitution. The tenth amendment grants no powers, but simply emphasizes the powers states already have. The power of the state supreme courts is derived from the inherent sovereignty of the states.
