I have just poked around in the U.S. Congress' website, finding the brief biography for Speaker Thomas B. Reed here: http://bioguide.congress.gov/scripts/biodisplay.pl?index=R000128 ... Following up, the bibliography for this biography of Reed includes this information "Tuchman, Barbara. ”End of a Dream.” In The Proud Tower, pp. 134-94. New York: Bantam Books, 1966." So The Proud Tower might be the source of the Tuchman quotation. 66.114.70.80 (talk) 10:28, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
