Quake Mission Pack 2: Dissolution of Eternity is the second official mission pack for id Software's first person shooter, Quake. Developed by Rogue Entertainment, Dissolution of Eternity featured 16 new single player levels, as well as new enemies, weapons and power-ups. Like the first mission pack, it features the music of Jeehun Hwang with a combination of orchestral, heavy metal, and Mayan musical styles.
Dissolution is generally considered the inferior of the two mission packs[citation needed], with players often citing the difference in quality of level design, despite having a variety of styles such as Greco-Roman, Mayan, and Egyptian. Some reviews frowned upon the weapon modifications, particularly the lava nails and multi-rockets as they simply made more moderately difficult enemies easy, due to it taking fewer shots to kill without introducing something new in the attack method.

[edit] New enemies
[edit] New monsters
- Electric Eel
- Small fish monster which possesses an electric shock attack.
- Phantom Swordsman
- Appears as a disembodied sword floating in midair. Can be difficult to target in a fight.
- Multi-Grenade Ogre
- Ogres that fire cluster grenades which make it harder for the player to avoid taking damage. These monsters randomly replace regular ogres in a level.
- Hell Spawn
- A greenish variant of Quake's spawn or tarbaby monster.
- Wrath
- Floating, robed undead, capable of firing magic projectiles that home in on the player.
- Guardian
- These appear to be resurrected ancient Egyptian warriors. When the player encounters guardians, they slowly rise up out of the ground. These enemies are slow but take a lot of damage to bring down. Armed with magical staffs, they can fire salvos of orange energy bolts or use their weapon in melee combat. In keeping with their appearance they are only encountered in the Egyptian-themed levels of the mission pack.
- Mummy
- Another Egyptian-themed enemy, but this monster differs from Quake's zombies only in appearance, more health and the fact that they do not resurrect.
- Statue
- Not a separate monster as such, but the player encounters statues of various enemies (e.g., death knights) that can come to life to ambush the player.
[edit] New bosses
- Hephaestus/Lava Man
- On the level 'Elemental Fury II' the player must defeat four of these lava demons to progress though the 'fire' zone. They resemble smaller versions of the Quake boss Chthon and share its lava ball attacks, though unlike Chthon the lava demons can be killed with the player's normal weapons.
- The Overlord
- The player encounters two overlords in the game, though it is possible the two are in fact the same being despite the player having apparently killed the overlord in the first encounter. This monster is a lord of wraths, and as such resembles a large wrath. In addition to this the monster has an extra pair of arms wielding melee weapons to complement its magic projectile attack. On the first encounter the overlord can teleport to avoid the player's attacks.
- The Dragon
- The final boss of the game is a dragon guarding the 'temporal energy converter'. The dragon flies around a large cavern while launching fire and lightning balls at the player. As well as the high speed and splash damage of these attacks, the fight is made more difficult by frequent earthquakes which can easily tip a player into the lava pools on the floor of the cavern.
[edit] New weapons
- All of the new weapons in the single player campaign are re-skins of the original Quake weapons (i.e., their basic shape and animations seen in the game are the same).
- The Lava Nailgun
- A version of the nailgun that fires lava nails, which are orange and do more damage.
- The Lava Super Nailgun
- The lava nail firing version of the perforator/super nailgun.
- The Multi-Grenade Launcher
- A version of the grenade launcher that fires cluster grenades, identical to those used by multi-grenade ogres.
- The Multi-Rocket Launcher
- A version of the rocket launcher that fires four rockets with a slight horizontal spread that home in on enemies to a limited degree. Though individual multi-rockets do less damage than regular rockets, this weapon is still very powerful.
- The Plasma Gun
- This variant of the Thunderbolt is actually quite different from the weapon it is based on, in that instead of emitting a continuous beam it fires fast moving ball lightning projectiles. If there are any enemies around the point of impact, beams are emitted to strike them.
- The Grappling Hook
- This weapon is a default weapon (i.e.: acquired automatically) when playing the capture the flag game mode introduced by Rogue in this mission pack. It can not be picked up in the single player levels. It is mainly intended to aid movement around a map and speed up gameplay, but also does a small amount of damage to enemy players.
