Disney University
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Disney University (DU) is a job training location for Cast Members located at Walt Disney World in Orlando Florida, Disneyland's Team Disney Anaheim, and Burbank's Team Disney Headquarters. The Walt Disney World building is located behind the Magic Kingdom, across from the employee parking lot. It is primarily used to orient new Cast Members, Walt Disney World College Program student interns, and Walt Disney World International Program participants. Other training that takes place at Disney University includes location-specific training (Food and Beverage, Front Desk, Merchandise, Guest Relations, etc.), many training updates, and the 'Foundations' series of classes for salaried leaders.
All new Cast Members attend 'Traditions' on their first day of work; this class imparts the importance of the Disney history, legacy and brand through several promotional videos, group workshop exercises, and prize winning opportunities. The entire building is set up with two floors of class rooms where job practices are taught and Cast Members can practice on cash registers, ticketing machines, and ticket turnstiles. After a formal training period, Cast Members continue to their job locations for further on-site training.
Also located at the Disney University, is a Partners Federal Credit Union branch and ATM, an Aramark cafeteria and a Company D employee store. This is also the location of Disney's Access Control office, where all Cast Members are issued their Disney ID cards.
In addition, the Disney Universities are home to a number of Cast Members responsible for the design and development of various training interventions that support the worldwide Cast of Walt Disney Parks and Resort. Specifically, those Cast Members specialize in Leadership development, personal development, professional development, and Instructional Design.
